James Post Rosenkrans, II

JAMES POST ROSENKRANS, II CHARLOTTE ANN ROSENKRANS

He was born in Pittston, PA, on June 25, 1875.  He graduated as an accountant from Wood's Business College in Scranton, PA, in April 1894.  He entered the service of The Grand Union Tea Company in November, which was the successor to The Jones Brothers Tea Company, of Scranton, PA.

In 1898, he was married to Charlotte Ann Scott ( born October 1, 1877 - died September 20, 1946), daughter of William Scott (born 1853, died 1888) and Sarah J. Hunter Scott (born 1855, died 1888.) at Mechanicsville, NY.  Their son and only child, James Post Rosenkrans, III, was born August 24, 1900, in Cleveland, Ohio. He returned to Newburgh, NY, in 1910 as the local manager of the Grand Union Tea Company, and later on became the superintendent of the Newburgh district.

He belonged to the Free & Accepted Masons,  the International Order of the Odd Fellows, the Kiwanis Service Club, and the Knights templar.  He was an Episopalian and a member of St. George's church in Newburgh.  He belonged to the Newburgh Bay and Highlands Historical Society.

In politics he was a Republican, and he had been the supervisor of the Fourth Ward on the Board of Supervisors since 1927.  His obituary in The Newburgh News stated that, "In the county legislature he was recognized as a man of constructive leadership and this with a pleasing personality, uniform courtesy and strict integrity made him an outstanding and influential representative."

He died of a stroke at his home on City Terrace, on May 9, 1932.  He is buried in the family plot at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Milton, NY, a few miles north of Newburgh.  His widow, Charlotte Ann Rosenkrans, died on September 20, 1946, and is buried beside him.
